Our mission
Mizan is a complete Islamic technology project offering a range of free religious tools and daily acts of worship through the website and a smartphone app (available on Google Play, with an iPhone version coming soon), to help Muslims recite and reflect on the Book of Allah, keep up their adhkar and prayers, and organise their religious and financial affairs with ease and clarity. We started from a clear idea: a Muslim needs a reliable daily companion that combines religious authenticity with modern technology, without compromising on scholarly accuracy or user privacy.
We chose the name "Mizan" (the Balance) because it expresses the essence of what we strive for: justice, accuracy and balance in knowledge, action and calculation, as Allah the Exalted said: ﴿وَأَقِيمُوا الْوَزْنَ بِالْقِسْطِ وَلَا تُخْسِرُوا الْمِيزَانَ﴾ “And establish weight in justice and do not make deficient the balance” [Ar-Rahman: 9].
What does Mizan offer?
Mizan provides a complete suite across the website and the mobile app, all of which runs locally on your device without needing to create an account:
First: The Holy Quran, tafsirs and adhkar (in the mobile app)
- The Holy Quran in the Uthmani script: read the surahs and juz' of the Holy Quran on gilded Mushaf pages or verse by verse, with pause marks, a memorisation assistant, night and day focus mode, khatmah tracking and a daily reading streak. Long-press any verse to bring up its options bar: tafsir, listen from here, bookmark, copy and share, without a touch on the page interrupting your reading.
- Tafsirs and translations of the meanings: includes Tafsir al-Muyassar and Tafsir al-Jalalayn built in to work offline, opening in a panel inside the Mushaf page itself so the page behind does not move, with a library of additional downloadable tafsirs (such as Tafsir Ibn Kathir) and translations of the meanings of the Holy Quran in 15 world languages.
- Audio recitation: listen to the recitation verse by verse starting from the verse you choose, with settings for the reciter and the range (continuous, page, surah, or from one verse to another), repetition, the pause between verses and speed, ready-made presets for listening, memorisation and revision, and caching for offline listening.
- Adhkar and Hisn al-Muslim (24 sections — 334 adhkar): morning and evening adhkar, adhkar after prayer and before sleep, and supplications from the Quran and Sunnah, each with an interactive counter and an "Evidence" button that shows the source, hadith number, its grading and who graded it, the narrator and the virtue of the dhikr.

Second: Religious and astronomical tools and calculators (on the website and in the app)
- Comprehensive zakat calculator: calculates zakat on money, gold, silver, shares and trade goods across all five types, taking into account the nisab and the passing of the hawl (lunar year) and presenting the religious evidence for each type.
- Zakat al-Fitr calculator: find out the amount of Zakat al-Fitr for an individual and a family in the Prophetic sa' and its equivalent in weight and cash value.
- Islamic inheritance calculator: divides an estate among the heirs according to the fixed shares, residuary inheritance (ta'sib), exclusion (hajb), 'awl and radd established in the science of fara'id, with a detailed explanation of the inheritance verses and how the estate is divided step by step.
- Prayer times and adhan: accurate calculation of the five daily prayers and sunrise based on your geographic location and the adopted calculation method, with adhan alerts and home-screen widgets in the app.
- Qibla direction: accurately determines the direction of the Holy Kaaba using an interactive compass based on your location coordinates and your device's sensors.
- Hijri date converter and age calculator: convert between Hijri and Gregorian dates according to the Umm al-Qura calendar, and calculate age in years, months and days in both calendars.
- Digital tasbih and Islamic events: a smart tasbih counter that saves your progress, and a countdown to Ramadan, the two Eids, the Day of Arafah and other Islamic occasions.
- Fidya and kaffarah calculator: calculates the fasting fidya, the kaffarah for an oath and the kaffarah for deliberately breaking a fast, explaining their religious basis.
Third: Global support in 15 languages and full customisation
The Mizan app supports fifteen world languages to serve Muslims around the world: Arabic, English, French, Turkish, Urdu, Indonesian, Malay, Persian, Bengali, Russian, German, Spanish, Ukrainian, Uzbek and Kazakh, with the option to download additional language packs, a choice of 10 interface colors, and 5 home-screen widgets.
Our scholarly methodology and sources
We make sure that every tool and text in Mizan rests on a documented scholarly and religious foundation:
1. The text of the Holy Quran and the tafsirs
For the text of the Holy Quran in the Uthmani script and the simplified text used for search, we rely on the internationally trusted Tanzil (Tanzil.net) project, and we use the Amiri Quran font, designed specifically for writing the Mushaf, with automated software tests that verify all verses of the Holy Quran (6236 verses) in their places letter by letter.
2. Fiqh and hadith sources
For religious rulings and adhkar we rely on the Holy Quran and the authentic Prophetic Sunnah from the two Sahihs and the recognised books of Sunan, stating the source and grading of every dhikr. In matters of juristic calculation (such as zakat, inheritance and fidya) we adopt the view of the majority of jurists and contemporary fiqh councils, and we attach a "Religious evidence" card to every screen, pointing out where valid scholarly differences exist and giving the user a choice wherever possible.
3. Astronomical calculations and the Hijri calendar
Prayer times and the Qibla direction are calculated using precise astronomical and spherical equations based on the location's coordinates and the sun's angles, supporting the international calculation methods (Umm al-Qura, Muslim World League, Egyptian General Authority, and others). Hijri date conversion relies on the official Umm al-Qura calendar, noting that the start of the month may differ by one day depending on the religious sighting of the crescent moon.
Our values
- Grounding and accuracy: we link every tool and ruling to its religious evidence from the Quran and Sunnah, and test the calculations against solved examples from books of fiqh and fara'id.
- Complete privacy: all calculations and readings take place locally on your device, and the mobile app is entirely free of ads and any tracking software.
- Free of charge and works offline: all our tools and apps are free for everyone, and the app works with its full Mushaf, both tafsirs, adhkar and calculators without an internet connection.
- Clarity and education: we explain the calculation steps and the verses of rulings in every tool, so that Muslims understand how the religious result was derived.
How do we review content?
All religious content and every new tool in Mizan goes through several stages before publication: collecting the rulings and texts from their original sources, then programming the tool and running comprehensive automated tests (for verses, adhkar, inheritance cases and language packs), followed by linguistic and technical review. After publication we follow users' feedback and continuously update the content.
Help us improve
We believe that serving religious knowledge is a shared responsibility, and we welcome every comment, correction or suggestion, whether about the website's tools, the mobile app or the language translations. Do not hesitate to write to us through the Contact Us page or by email at mizanalmuslimhilal@gmail.com.
We ask Allah to make this work sincerely for His Noble Face, and to benefit Muslims with it in the east and west of the earth.
