Welcome to Mizan. These Terms and Conditions govern your use of the website (https://mizan-al-muslem.com) and the official smartphone app "Mizan: Quran & Prayer Times" for Android and iOS (package ID: com.mizan.almuslim) and all the tools and content available in them. By using the website or the app, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agreed to be bound by these terms.
1. Nature of the service
Mizan offers a suite of free Islamic tools and services that work on the web and mobile, including:
- The Holy Quran, tafsirs and recitation: display of the text of the Holy Quran in the Uthmani script, Tafsir al-Muyassar, Tafsir al-Jalalayn and the library of additional tafsirs, translations of the meanings of the Quran in 15 languages, listening to audio recitations, and khatmah and memorisation tracking.
- Encyclopedia of adhkar and supplications: 24 sections containing 334 adhkar and supplications from the Holy Quran and the Prophetic Sunnah, with sourcing, hadith grading and an interactive counter.
- Religious and astronomical calculators and tools: the zakat calculator for all five types, the Zakat al-Fitr calculator, the Islamic inheritance calculator, prayer times and adhan alerts, the Qibla direction, the Hijri date converter, the age calculator, the digital tasbih, Islamic events, and the fidya and kaffarah calculator, in addition to the attached articles, explanations and religious evidence.
Using the website or the app does not require creating an account, and all services are provided free of charge "as is" and "as available".
2. Acceptable use
You agree to use the website and the app for lawful, personal and educational purposes, and undertake not to do any of the following:
- Distort or alter the text of the Holy Quran, the tafsirs or the Prophetic hadiths, or use them in a way that violates their sanctity and reverence.
- Use the website or the app in a way that violates applicable local or international laws.
- Attempt to hack, disable or affect the performance of the website, or introduce malicious software.
- Deliberately click on ads on the website or generate artificial traffic by any means.
- Present the results of the calculation tools as an official fatwa or a binding court ruling.
- Resell the app or embed the website's tools commercially in a way that suggests an official affiliation with us without prior permission.
3. Intellectual property and open licences
All design, programming and explanatory elements of Mizan are protected under intellectual property laws, while respecting the rights and licences of the included scholarly sources:
- The text of the Holy Quran: taken from the Tanzil (Tanzil.net) project under the Creative Commons licence (CC BY 3.0), and displayed as is without any modification, with the source's rights preserved.
- Tafsirs and translations of the meanings: provided from their trusted scholarly sources and the Tanzil project for personal, educational and non-commercial use; the app is completely free and ad-free.
- The Mushaf font (Amiri Quran): licensed under the SIL Open Font License (OFL).
- Explanations and articles: personal use, sharing links and quoting short excerpts for non-commercial purposes are permitted, provided the source and the page link are cited.
4. Accuracy of results and content
We make great efforts and carry out software and scholarly tests to ensure the integrity of the Quranic texts and adhkar and the accuracy of the juristic and astronomical calculations; however, the calculation results in the tools depend on:
- The correctness and completeness of the inputs provided by the user (such as the details of the heirs, the values of wealth and debts, or the location coordinates).
- The juristic positions adopted in each tool, given the existence of valid juristic differences between the imams of the schools on some secondary issues.
- Variable factors such as the prices of gold, silver and currencies, the religious sighting of the crescent moons, and the astronomical calculation methods adopted in each country.
The calculation results are therefore for guidance and education, and are not a specific fatwa or a court ruling. For more details, see the Disclaimer page.
5. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, neither Mizan nor those who run it bear any responsibility for any direct or indirect damages arising from the use of the website or the app, or from sole reliance on the results of the calculators in matters of estates or wealth without referring to the competent religious and judicial authorities. We reserve the right to update any tool or feature to improve it at any time.
6. External links and resources
The website may include links to external websites for reference or advertising purposes. These links are provided for convenience only, and we are not responsible for their content or their own policies.
7. Advertisements
The smartphone app (com.mizan.almuslim) is completely free of any commercial advertisements. The website, however, may display ads through Google AdSense to cover server running costs and keep the services free, and we strive to block inappropriate ad categories as far as possible. 8. Privacy
Your use of the website and the app is subject to the Privacy Policy, which explains that calculations and readings take place locally on your device and that we do not collect your personal data.
9. Changes to the terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms and Conditions when new features are added to the website or the app; changes take effect as soon as they are published on this page, with the "Last updated" date updated.
10. Governing principles
These terms are interpreted according to the principles of justice and fairness and in a manner that does not conflict with the rulings of Islamic Sharia, and we seek to resolve any comment or dispute amicably through direct communication.
