All tools, services and texts published on the Mizan website (https://mizan-al-muslem.com) and in the official smartphone app (com.mizan.almuslim for Android and iOS) are provided in good faith for general devotional, educational and guidance purposes. Although we take great care over scholarly accuracy and rely on trusted religious sources, please read the following notices carefully.

Calculation results and evidence are guidance, not a fatwa

What the website's and app's calculators display — and the "Religious evidence" cards, explanations of verses and hadiths attached to them — is a scholarly and arithmetical statement based on the inputs provided by the user and on the positions adopted by the majority of jurists. It is not a specific fatwa, a court ruling, or legal or financial advice, since individual circumstances and facts may differ in ways that change the religious ruling. Therefore, for personal matters or particular new cases, please refer to specialised scholars or the official fatwa authorities in your country.

The Holy Quran, tafsirs and translations of the meanings

The text of the Holy Quran in the Uthmani script in the Mizan app is taken verbatim from the trusted Tanzil (Tanzil.net) project, with automated verification of all its verses (6236 verses). Recognised works of tafsir (such as Tafsir al-Muyassar, Tafsir al-Jalalayn, Tafsir Ibn Kathir and others) are likewise displayed from their scholarly sources. The translations of the meanings of the Holy Quran available in the app's 15 languages are human translations that convey the meanings of the verses to non-Arabic speakers; they do not take the place of the inimitable Arabic Quranic text, nor are they recited in prayer in its stead. If you notice any typographical or technical error in the display or the translation, please inform us immediately so we can correct it.

Adhkar, supplications and hadith sourcing

The 24 adhkar sections in the app (334 adhkar and supplications) are based on the Holy Quran, the books of the Prophetic Sunnah and the book "Hisn al-Muslim", with the source of each dhikr, the hadith number, its grading and the hadith scholar who graded it. While we strive to include only authentic (sahih) and good (hasan) narrations and to state the grading of each, citing the grading is a transmission of the verdicts of the leading hadith verifiers, for verification and reassurance.

Inheritance calculator

The science of fara'id is among the most precise of the religious sciences, and many real estates involve special cases such as an unborn child, a missing person, successive deaths (munasakhat), bequests, debts and other rights attached to the estate. Personal status laws also differ between countries on some issues (such as the obligatory bequest, the shared case (al-mushtarakah) or the inheritance of the grandfather together with siblings). The result of the inheritance calculator and the explanation of the division steps are therefore estimates for learning, understanding and orientation only, and must be verified with the competent Sharia court or a scholar specialised in fara'id before any actual division of an estate.

Do not rely on the inheritance calculator's result alone to divide an actual estate; the binding reference is the certificate of heirs (succession deed) and the ruling issued by the competent judicial authority.

Prayer times, adhan alerts and Qibla direction

Prayer times are calculated astronomically based on your location's coordinates and the selected calculation method, and they may differ by a few minutes from the official timetable adopted in your country or from the local mosque's adhan, because of differences in the Fajr and Isha angles, time precautions and elevation above sea level. We advise following the local mosque's adhan and the official timetable when they differ, and taking precaution regarding the start of fasting (imsak) and the beginning of prayer times. The Qibla direction depends on the accuracy of your location coordinates and on your device's compass sensor, which may be affected by nearby metals and magnetic fields, so make sure to calibrate the compass before relying on it.

The Hijri date and Islamic events

The Hijri date converter, the countdown to events and the Hijri date widgets rely on the Umm al-Qura calendar. The actual start of a Hijri month may differ by one day depending on the religious sighting of the crescent moon in your country, so please refer to the official announcement of the religious authorities in your country to determine the start of Ramadan, the two Eids, the Day of Arafah and the fasting of the virtuous days.

Zakat, Zakat al-Fitr, fidya and kaffarah

The results of the zakat calculators (for cash, gold, silver, shares and trade goods) depend on the correctness of the amounts and weights you enter, and on the prices of gold, silver and currencies at the time of calculation, which change daily. Make sure you enter current prices in your local market, and that the conditions making zakat obligatory and the passing of the hawl are met. The schools of fiqh also differ on some secondary issues, such as whether the nisab is measured by gold or by silver, zakat on jewellery intended for personal use, and paying the cash value for Zakat al-Fitr and fidya.
