We at Mizan (hereinafter referred to as "Mizan", "the website", "the app" or "we") respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it fully. This Privacy Policy applies to both the website (https://mizan-al-muslem.com) and the official smartphone app "Mizan: Quran & Prayer Times" for Android and iOS (package ID: com.mizan.almuslim). By using the website or the app, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Our core principle: local processing on your device
All Mizan tools and services — including the Holy Quran, the tafsirs and the adhkar, the zakat and Zakat al-Fitr calculators, the inheritance calculator, the Hijri date converter, the age calculator, prayer times, the Qibla direction, the digital tasbih, and the fidya and kaffarah calculator — are designed to run entirely locally on your device or within your browser. The figures, financial amounts, names of heirs, dates and your Quran and adhkar reading history are not sent to our servers; we do not store them and we never see them. Using the website or the app does not require creating an account or logging in.
2. Privacy of the smartphone app (Android & iOS — com.mizan.almuslim)
The Mizan smartphone app adheres to the highest standards of privacy and security:
- Completely free of ads and tracking: the mobile app contains no commercial advertisements and includes no analytics software or external tracking packages (Zero Ads & Zero Tracking SDKs).
- We do not collect or share any personal data: the app does not collect, transfer, sell or share any personal or sensitive data with any third party.
- Works offline (Offline-First): the Holy Quran in the Uthmani script, Tafsir al-Muyassar and Tafsir al-Jalalayn, the 334 adhkar, and all calculators, prayer times and the Qibla direction work without needing an internet connection.
Mobile app permissions and how they are used
The mobile app may request the following optional permissions to run specific features locally on your device only:
- Location (
ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATIONandACCESS_FINE_LOCATION): an optional permission used exclusively on the device to calculate prayer times astronomically and determine the Qibla angle. Your location coordinates are not sent to any external server or saved outside your device, and you can do without this permission by selecting your city manually from the built-in list of cities. - Notifications and exact alarms (
POST_NOTIFICATIONS,SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARMandRECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED): used locally only to send prayer time and adhan alerts, and to reschedule alarms automatically when the device restarts or the time zone changes. - Compass and motion sensor: read locally on the device to move the interactive Qibla compass towards the Holy Kaaba, without recording or sending any readings.
Optional internet connection within the app
The mobile app does not connect to the internet automatically in the background to collect data; it only makes a direct connection when the user personally requests one of the following optional services:
- Audio recitations of the Holy Quran: when you choose to listen to the recitation of verses, the app fetches the audio files for the requested verses and saves them in the cache on the device so you can listen to them later offline.
- Library of additional tafsirs: when you wish to download additional works of tafsir (such as Tafsir Ibn Kathir, al-Tabari or al-Sa'di) to save and use on your device offline.
- Additional language packs: when you open the language list and download or update a language pack and translation of the meanings of the Quran from the official website (
https://mizan-al-muslem.com/lang/).
3. Information we collect
Information you provide voluntarily
We do not collect any personal information directly. If you write to us by email or through the contact form (which opens the email program on your device), we will receive your name, email address and the content of your message, and we use them only to reply to you; we do not share them with any other party or use them for marketing purposes.
Information collected automatically when browsing the website
When you use the website through the browser only (not the mobile app), some technical information may be collected automatically through the third-party services we use on the website (advertising and analytics), such as: browser type and operating system, language, the pages you visited and the duration of the visit, the referring website, IP address and cookie identifiers. This information is processed according to the policies of those parties mentioned below.
4. Local storage on your device
We use local storage (localStorage in the browser, and SharedPreferences / NSUserDefaults in the mobile app) to save your settings and progress locally on your device only, including:
- The selected appearance (light or dark mode), your preferred interface color and display language.
- The city, the astronomical calculation method and the juristic school for displaying prayer times, and the adhan alert settings.
- Your last reading position in the Holy Quran, saved verses (bookmarks), khatmah tracking, daily reading streak, font size and selected tafsirs.
- The number of tasbihs in the digital tasbih and your progress in the daily adhkar counters.
This data stays on your device only and is not sent to us, and you can delete it at any time by clearing the website data in your browser settings or clearing the app data in your phone's settings.
5. Location in the browser
The prayer times and Qibla direction tools on the website optionally allow the use of your browser's location feature, after requesting your explicit permission. If you agree, the coordinates are used only on your device to calculate the times and the Qibla direction, and are not sent to or stored on our servers; you can refuse permission and choose your city manually.
6. Cookies on the website
Cookies are small text files saved in your browser when you visit websites. The mobile app does not use any cookies, and the Mizan website itself does not set cookies to track you, but third-party services that we may use on the website only (such as Google AdSense and Google Analytics) may set or read cookies to display ads, measure their performance and analyse website usage. You can control or delete cookies from your browser settings.
7. Google AdSense ads on the website
The website only (not the mobile app) displays ads through the Google AdSense service to cover hosting costs and keep the tools free. In this context, we disclose the following:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites on the internet.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visits to the website.
- Users may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or by visiting www.aboutads.info.

8. Google Analytics on the website
We may use the Google Analytics service on the website to understand how visitors use the website's pages, in aggregated statistical form that helps us improve the tools and content. 9. Consent for users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland
If you visit the website from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we will ask for your consent before using non-essential cookies for personalised advertising and analytics purposes through a Google-certified consent management platform (CMP). The mobile app, for its part, does not collect any personal data or display any ads in any country.
10. Children's privacy
The content and tools of Mizan are safe and suitable for all ages, and we do not knowingly collect any personal information from any user, including children under the age of thirteen. If you become aware that a child has sent us personal information by email, please contact us so that we can delete it immediately.
11. Links to other websites
The website may contain links to external websites for reference or advertising purposes. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those websites, and we advise you to review their own privacy policies.
12. Information security
The website and all connections for downloading language packs and tafsirs are served over an encrypted and secure connection (HTTPS), and because your calculation and reading data never leaves your device in the first place, the risk of it leaking from our side is practically non-existent.
13. Your rights and data deletion
Since we do not create user accounts and do not keep any personal data on our servers, all your local data is under your full control on your device; you can delete it at any time by clearing the browser data, clearing the app data or uninstalling the app from your device, or by writing to us to delete any email you sent us previously.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect any new features in the website or the app or legal requirements. We will publish any change on this page, updating the "Last updated" date at the top.
